Flexible Protection Offered by PCV2 Vaccine

The porcine circovirus type 2 vaccine from Fort Dodge Animal Health has been available since mid-2006, reports Pork Mag.

The vaccine is designed to allow the most appropriate vaccination protocol for specific production systems. The new USDA approval allows vaccination in a single 2-mL dose in pigs three weeks of age or older or in two 1-mL doses, with the first dose at three weeks of age or older and the second dose two weeks later.

Suvaxyn PCV2 vaccine aids in the prevention of PCV2 viremia and control of lymphoid (immune system) depletion caused by PCV2. Data approved by the USDA indicate Suvaxyn PCV2 vaccine provides four months of protection against PCVAD.
