Australian Pork Industry Fights Back
AUSTRALIA - The pork industry claims that it can't afford to match a radio advertising campaign against intensive pig farming, being run by Animals Australia.
The animal rights group has managed to raise enough public donations to run ads on commercial radio in capital cities for four weeks.
There's a lot of anxiety in the pork industry regarding sales and purchases of pork and bacon, reports ABC.
According to Andrew Spencer, from Australian Pork Limited, the industry will have to come up with a cheaper way to fight back.
"We have to be smart about how we go about this and there are some more mass media opportunities which don't have to cost as much, typical public relations, and also the use of the internet and the web, to put some sites in there," he says.
"So people can see real producers and talk to pig farmers and get a more balanced view about how pig farming is done."
