Meat Plant Closes Following Salmonella Link

IRELAND - Dawn Farm Foods has closed its meat plant following its link to a recent outbreak of Salmonella agona in Ireland and the UK.

Dawn Farm Foods decided to stop production in Naas, County Kildare, after it was confirmed their product is one of the sources of food poisoning, reports The Daily Mirror of London.

Spokesman Larry Murrin said, "We are distraught at the thought that any consumer or customer of ours would have been in any way harmed.

"We are taking all the steps we possibly can to re-establish that confidence. The 500 people employed at the plant will not be laid off."

Ten people have so far been treat for salmonella.

The Irish Food Safety Authority found that some meat products supplied to sandwich chains, for ready meals and caterers - including chicken and pig meat items - may have been contaminated.
