Australian Pork Limited (APL) estimates that one in five pork producers have quit the industry this year, according ABC.

But pig farmer Russell Bishop, from Cloyna, is pleased he survived, and says he's keen to make the most of cheaper grain prices and a lower Australian dollar.

"It's just funny how quickly it can turn, the dollars come back very quickly and we've had a very good sorghum harvest and we're looking at a reasonable winter harvest as well," he says.

"It's really funny how quickly the pig industry turns. I was talking to one of my dairy friends, who is out of the industry now, he said 'Russell you've got another two years of this' and I said 'I can't stand anymore of this' but within a few months we're back profitable again."
