New Collaboration for Hermitage Genetics in Spain
SPAIN - On 12 December 2008, Hermitage Genetics and Gepork announced their new collaboration in the Spanish market with a technical conference presenting the Hermitage Genetic Pig Improvement Program to Gepork customers. The conference was held near BIC, north of Barcelona.Hermitage has appointed Gepork as a distributor in Spain. Gepork was established in 1979, and specialises in the production and distribution of semen and breeding stock from their AI stations and great grandparent (GGP) nucleus farms.
Hermitage has supplied an impressive range of their top maternal line GGP Large White and Landrace boars to the Gepork studs, from which semen will be distributed to closed herd breeding units in Spain for the production of replacement gilts.

Gepork is already implementing the Hermitage Closed Herd BLUP Breeding Program on their Fabregas nucleus unit, which will in turn produce maternal line grandparent (GP) gilts that will be supplied to customers in the Spanish market. In addition, GP and parent gilts will continue to be supplied directly to customers in Spain from Hermitage's high health nucleus units in Ireland.
Hermitage is also already working closely with the largest pig production company in the Spanish market, Vall Companys, where 1670 GGP/GP Hermitage damline sows are utilised in conjunction with the Hermitage Closed Herd BLUP Breeding Program to produce replacement breeding gilts for the Vall Companys breeding pyramid.
