Print This Page Danish Workers Rail against Weaner Exports
DENMARK - Trade union workers in Danish slaughterhouses are getting personal with pig producers who send weaners to Germany. They have invited the general public to a mass meeting and at the same time they will demonstrate against a nearby pig farmer who sends his pigs to Germany, where they get a better price and where there is less red-tape.
In a bid to save Denmark’s crisis-hit abattoir sector, the Danish food union wants all pigs that are produced in Denmark to be slaughtered in Denmark.
But Danish Crown is unlikely to survive as a world-supplier of pig meat unless it continues to pay the lowest prices in Europe, allowing it to undercut other exporters.
