Commenting on the role, Tim Rymer, JSR Chairman said, "We are delighted to announce Giles Christie as our new UK Sales Director. Giles is a product of our leadership pipeline and demonstrates our commitment to training and development. His track record has been exceptional and we now want him to build a team to replicate his ‘team-based’ approach to customer support throughout the UK."

The appointment highlights JSR’s commitment to the UK pig industry and its "potential for profitability".

Mr Christie, who joined JSR in 2002 as UK Accounts Manager, is relishing the new challenge. "The UK market remains very important to the JSR business," says Mr Christie. "It’s our home patch, on our own door step - you have to be strong at home to be able to grow the company across the world.

"It is a good time to invest. The UK pig sector has good potential for profitability and increasingly producers are choosing to invest in genetics and breeding animals.

"This is an encouraging trend and means that the importance of investing in new pig science and R + D is being recognised.

"My first objective is to increase JSRs UK market share by 5 per cent," admits Mr Christie. "This will be achieved by not only offering high performing Gilt’s and efficient Sire lines, but also top quality services and the technical back up to go alongside the stock – it’s not all about selling the product.

"We want to have profitable customers who stay in business, make money, invest, expand and then tell their neighbours about JSR. It’s been hard work making a profit in the UK pig industry over the last few years," concludes Mr Christie. "I have a great admiration and respect for UK producers and finally the importance of good genetics to achieve greater outputs is starting to be fully appreciated."
