EU Pig Prices: Prices are Still Going Upward
EU - This week, the atmosphere appears to be confident on the European slaughter pig market.
The price increases in most countries ranged from 1.5 cents (in France) to 5 cents (in Germany). Austria and the Netherlands followed Germany as regards their mark-ups. For the fifth week in a row, the Danish price has remained unchanged, amounting to EUR 1.32 per kg slaughter weight. In Sweden, the price increase still is a result of changes in the currency exchange rates.
As a consequence of slightly decreasing quantities of slaughters, prices went up a little in France. However, theres not enough drive on the market to achieve mark-ups like in Germany or the Netherlands. In Spain, the price went up by 2.6 cents. There, higher prices are hard to be put through in the meat business, although the numbers of pigs mature for slaughter are decreasing in the South of Spain. Supply in the North, however, remains sufficient.
Trend: The pigs-mature-for-slaughter supply restrained, demand for pork still is undamped. This makes the prices remain stable and with the weather being good for barbecue, the price is expected to go on developing in a friendly way.
