Register for Lauren Christian Pork Chop Open Event
IOWA, US - With the registration deadline less than two weeks away, organizers of the Lauren Christian Pork Chop Open say just a few team spots remain for golf portion of the 21 July event. Both golfers and those who want to attend only the evening activities need to register by 6 July, according to Iowa Pork Industry Center (IPIC) director John Mabry."Our golf team limit is 32 teams, and fewer than 10 team openings remain," Mr Mabry said. "We need to finalize our meal count from both the golfers and non-golfers, and encourage people to register soon to ensure their spots for the day’s events."
Golfers will gather at Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames for a 10 a.m. shotgun start, followed by evening events at the Farm Bureau Pavilion in Kildee Hall on the Iowa State University (ISU) campus.
The evening features a social time, dinner, awards program and auction, with proceeds from the day’s events going to the Lauran L. Christian Endowment. The endowment provides financial support for undergraduate and graduate students, and continued swine and pork educational opportunities through ISU.
Mr Mabry said those who attend the auction should be ready to bid on some unique items.
"We have an autographed football from former ISU quarterback Sage Rosenfels and a framed poster of Dr. Christian from the portrait done by artist Youssef Asar," he said. "Bidders also will want to check out the decorative holiday farmer pig piece and a scrap iron pig sculpture, and other items yet to be added to the list."
The awards program honors winners of the Lauren Christian undergraduate and graduate scholarships for 2009, as well as individual and team golf winners.
