EU Pig Prices: Slack for Seasonal Reasons
EU - The overall impression which is given by the European slaughter pig market this week is that of being weaker than recently.
The meat business throughout Europe appears to be devoid of incentive for seasonal reasons. The high-quality parts in particular generated price decreases. This weakness could not be compensated for by exports towards Eastern Europe. So, slaughter companies from all over Europe started to demand for regressive quotations. As for the live pigs on offer, the quantities are said to be sufficient.
German producers do have to cope with the largest decline, quoting a corrected minus 6 cents. As usual, the Dutch quotation followed. Belgium and Austria, too, clearly adjusted their quotations downward. The Danish quotations maintained the last rank. Great Britain was able to report on a slight price increase as a result of changes in the currency exchange rate. For the same reason, however, the Swedish quotation slackened a little.
Trend: At short notice, the quantities of pigs mature for slaughter on offer continues to be suitably large. It remains to be seen, yet, whether or not the markdown will be able to have the meat market stimulated.
