Print This Page H1N1 Flu Breaks out in Ireland
IRELAND - The veterinary authorities have reported the country's first case of influenza A H1N1 in pigs to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
The Irish veterinary authority sent Immediate Notification dated 29 September to OIE.
It reports an outbreak starting on 25 September at a farm in Kilworth in Cork. The farm has a total of 3,050 pigs. It has a breeding unit comprising 650 sows and 2,400 piglets and weaners. Forty dry sows in two if the three sow houses were affected.
The presence of the influenza A H1N1 virus has been confirmed.
