Pigs in Norway Infected with A/H1N1 Virus

An immediate notification was sent to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) on 12 October 2009 stating that this is an emerging disease in the country.

According to the report, the disease, so far, has made only a small zoonotic impact.

The disease is a result of contact with an infected person. The report states that the farmer of the herd had been sick with flu-like symptoms for some time and on Thursday, 7 October the diagnosis of pandemic flu (influenza A/H1N1/2009) was verified. The infection seems to have been introduced in the herd from humans to the pigs in the farrowing unit.

Several measures are being applied so as to curb the spread of the disease.
