DENMARK - This year, 10,685 farmers have delivered animals to Danish Crown - a 12 per cent fall on last year.
National Pig Association - The voice of the UK pig industry

However, a producers’ move away from Danish Crown to better prices in Germany is good news for livestock haulier H&S Westergaard, according to the UK's National Pig Association.

It has seen its turnover soar and profits increase almost 50 percent as a result of the growing export trade in live pigs to Germany.

During the past year Denmark’s stock of slaughter pigs has dropped 9 percent to 3.3m. During the first six months of the year, 4.2 million pigs were exported, of which 85 per cent were below 50kg.

Latest figures show Denmark’s sow herd unchanged compared to last quarter but a little larger than at the same time last year. Any growth in the breeding herd in the near future is unlikely as the number of young boars and young sows has decreased compared to last year, by four per cent and three per cent respectively.
