NASS to Make Changes to Quarterly Report

16 December 2009

National Agricultural Statistics Service

US - The USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) has announced it is making certain changes to its quarterly Hogs and Pigs report.

The National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) will change some market hog weight group categories used in its quarterly Hogs and Pigs report, beginning with the report published on 30 December. The changes will align NASS data with international trade data and will allow a more uniform analysis of the North American hog inventory.

NASS will now report market hog weights in an 'under 50 pounds' group and a '50-119 pounds' group instead of 'under 60 pounds' and '60-119 pounds'. Other market weight groups will remain the same.

The Hogs and Pigs report on 30 December will include national- and state-level data for the new weight groups dating back to March 2008 in order to allow for historical analysis of the new weight groups.
