Pigs Hit by Second Bout of H1N1 Outbreak

22 January 2010

JAPAN - The nation's second case of pigs infected with H1N1 flu has been confirmed at a farm in Yamagata Prefecture, the agriculture ministry said Wednesday.

The first case was detected in October in Osaka Prefecture.

According to The Japan Times, the ministry said it asked the farm's operator to keep the pigs in the facility and suggested the virus was transmitted by a human.

Eating properly cooked meat from an infected pig will not cause human infection because the new H1N1 virus is sensitive to heat, according to the Food Safety Commission.
