Germany's Swine Infected with Brucellosis

The German veterinary authorities confirmed the presence of Brucella suis virus on 18 December 2009 and sent a notification to OIE on Tuesday, 9 February.

A total of one outbreak has been detected in swine at a farm in Brandenburg. According to the report, there have been five cases and 38 animals have been found susceptible to the disease. The infected animals have been removed from the susceptible population through death, destruction and/or slaughter.

The cause of the outbreak has still not been determined.

A complement fixation test (CFT) in the country's Landeslabor Berlin-Brandenburg (Regional Reference Laboratory) has confirmed the presence of the Brucella suis virus.
