EU Pig Prices: Quotations Steady to Increasing
EU - This week, the slaughter pig market is characterised by a steady to upward trend.
The quotations in Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium and Austria remained on an unchanged level, while the prices in France, Spain and Great Britain went up. In Great Britain, the corrected version, however, fell as a result of exchange rate changes. Sweden is the only country that had to accept a price decrease.
The crucial reasons for Germany’s prices to decline are said to be the domestic meat business having worsened due to the carnival season as well as the sales on export markets which improved at the same time. In France, the plus in quotation is attributed to lower quantities on offer. Spain reports the demand for pigs mature for slaughter being very vivid on the part of the slaughter houses, so that a four cents’ price increase could be enforced easily there. On top of that, exports from Spain towards Asia are restarting as a result of the favourable euro - dollar ratio.
Trend: The quantities of pigs mature for slaughter on offer currently are meeting the domestic and foreign demands for the most part. Thus, the pigs-mature-for-slaughter prices are expected to continue to remain unchanged at least.
