EU Pig Prices: Inconsistent Appearance Throughout
EU - This week, there appear to be slight inconsistencies in the European slaughter pig market.
The quotations in Germany, the Netherlands, France, Belgium and Austria went down by 3 to 6 cents. On the other hand, the quotations in Spain and Great Britain rose.
Danish and Swedish prices remained on an unchanged level. Yet, the corrected versions of the quotations in Great Britain and Sweden just disappeared in the exchange rate changes.
Both the Netherlands and Germany state that the price drop had been caused by the worsening prices for pork. In addition to that, extensive quantities of pigs for slaughter are reported to be on offer. Exports of live pigs from the Netherlands towards Poland and Hungary have increased slightly.
The French slaughter companies claim that domestic food retailing is the reason for the lowering of prices. In Spain, however, the quotations have been pushed again. This way, the Spanish quotation once again proves to be in the lead.
Trend: After the prices fell clearly in parts, the slaughter pig prices are expected to remain unchanged this week.
