Russia Reports Three New ASF Outbreaks

RUSSIA - The Russian veterinary authorities have reported three new cases of African swine fever (ASF).

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received a follow-up report on the ASF situation in Russia on Friday, 19 March 2010.

According to the report, two outbreaks occured in Rostovskaya region, bordering Ukraine. In both cases, the affected population consists of wild boars. While in the first case (14 March 2010), two animals were affected, three were affected in the second outbreak, which occured on 16 March.

The other outbreak occured at a village in Krasnodarsky Kray. Seven cases/deaths were found in swine. 480 animals were found to be susceptible to the disease.

The cause of the outbreaks is still under investigation.
