Russia Reports One New ASF Outbreak in Swine
24 March 2010RUSSIA - According to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), the Russian veterinary authorities have reported a new outbreak of African swine fever (ASF).
According to the OIE, the outbreak occured at a farm in Novoivanovskoye. Four animals were found to be killed by the ASF virus. A total of 2300 animals showed signs of susceptibility. No animals were destroyed or slaughtered.
A polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test was conducted, thereby confirming the presence of the virus. The cause of the outbreak remains inconclusive, and is still under investigation.
