Spanish Producers Demand Stalls Ban Compensation
18 August 2010SPAIN - Pig producers in Spain's Catalunya region have called for a delay to the implementation of Europe's partial stalls ban in January 2013.
They say their financial difficulties will make pig production unviable if they have to change to loose housing.
A young farmers' group in the region says the European Commission should compensate farmers, as the new rules will lead to a further erosion of their competitiveness against non-European Union producers.
