Kiwis Concerned About Controls on Imported Pork
09 June 2011NEW ZEALAND - Kiwi consumers say they are concerned with biosecurity controls on imported pork after MAF relaxed border restrictions this year.
In a survey, 36 per cent of consumers voiced their concern about not knowing where the pork they buy comes from.
According to Newstalk ZB, there's currently no way for consumers to distinguish between imported or locally raised pork.
New Zealand Pork and Federated Farmers say biosecurity controls on imported pork should not be relaxed amidst fears exotic diseases could enter New Zealand and infect local pigs.
