Pork Levy Increase Expected to Be Approved
12 October 2011AUSTRALIA - The former president of Queensland Pork Producers says it's inevitable the levy will rise for that industry.
Australian Pork Limited wants to lift the levy from $2.525 per pig slaughtered to $3.25, reports ABC.
If producers approve, it would be the first increase since 1994.
Former QPP president Paul Taylor believes the levy will be approved at this weekend's APL annual general meeting.
"Certainly the vast majority of production is in favour of the increase, because it's just commonsense that you have to allow APL to operate efficiently and more money is needed to do that."
