Two More ASF Cases Reported in Russia

RUSSIA - Dr Nicolay Vlasov, CVO of Veterinary services from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food in Moscow has reported two new outbreaks of African swine fever in farms located in Saratovskaya oblast and Orenburgskaya oblast.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 74 yesterday, 22 December.

The report states that a total of 296 pigs were found susceptible, out of which 24 cases were reported. All 24 affected animals were found dead, and the remaining 272 pigs were destroyed.

The source of the outbreaks remain inconclusive, and is under investigation.

The OIE, in conjunction with Russia's Ministry of Agriculture and Food, have applied several measures. The measures are:

  • Control of wildlife reservoirs
  • Stamping out
  • Quarantine
  • Movement control inside the country
  • Disinfection of infected premises/establishment(s)
  • Vaccination prohibited
  • No treatment of affected animals
