The State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service said in a statement that it banned pork imports for fears of African swine fever (ASF).

The ASF, a viral disease fatal to pigs but harmless to human beings, is spreading into Belarus from Russia.

The situation in Russia and uncertainty about the ASF in Belarus pose a threat to biosafety in Ukraine, the sanitary service stressed.

It said dairy imports from Belarus were also suspended as veterinary drug residues in dairy products were found above maximum allowable levels in February.
