Poultry Contributes to Meat Production Growth

RUSSIA - According to preliminary data from Rosstat for the first quarter of 2012, Russian farms of all categories produced almost 2,499 tonnes of meat - 8.1 per cent more than that over the same period last year.

According to Caspio Net, citing the Kazakh Zerno information agency, Russia has experienced a growth in meat production.

Agricultural organisations have produced 1,716 tonnes of meat.

In the period from January-March farms produced 716,000 tonnes of meat.

The bulk of production in the country was in poultry meat.

Pork with 720,000 tonnes or 29 per cent of the total meat production in the country came next.

The largest Russian suppliers of pork and poultry meat are the Krasnodar region, the Republic of Tatarstan, and the Lipetsk region.
