Further Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Latvia Kills Wild Boars, Pigs

LATVIA - The Latvian veterinary authorities have reported 17 further outbreaks of African swine fever in various counties, affecting and killing wild boars and pigs.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 9 on Friday, 5 September.

According to the report, a total of 17 outbreaks took place, in which a total of 18 wild boars were found to be infected by the ASF virus, out of which nine were reportedly found dead.

As for pigs, a total of 20 were found susceptible, out of which six cases were reported. Three pigs were reportedly found dead and the remaining 17 were destroyed.

The source of the outbreaks remains inconclusive.
