Continuing reduction in pig numbers
BELGIUM - The Belgian August pig census shows that the reduction in pig numbers evident earlier in the year has continued.

Total pig numbers were over four per cent down on the 2001 August census and one per cent lower than the number recorded in April 2002.
The breeding herd showed a decline of three per cent compared with a year earlier.
