THE VOICE OF THE UK PIG INDUSTRY

NPA is active on members' behalf in Brussels & White-hall, and with pro-cessors, supermarkets & caterers – fighting for the growth and pros-perity of the UK pig industry.

A leading pig specialist, Mike had been looking forward to a long and happy retirement in his new home in Beverley and to spending more time with his wife Louise, their three sons and six grandchildren.

Known not only throughout the UK but also worldwide for his pioneering work in pig health, he will be sadly missed by family, friends and colleagues alike.

He felt strongly about the need for education for both farmers and their staff and produced a comprehensive training schedule with dozens of bullet points from acclimatising new gilts to disinfecting transport, feeding, injections, recording and disposal of dead stock.

He wrote many books which have become a byword throughout the industry, plus his children's books.

He was able to put his advice into practice as a partner in a 240-sow herd, progeny to bacon and was one of the first to use a single AI service, proving to us that there is a right time to serve a sow.

He was also first in the field to advise segregated early weaning and was an advocate of all-in all-out batch systems.
