Rush on Thai pork sends prices soaring

BANGKOK - The retail price of pork has risen dramatically in the wake of the bird-flu outbreak, touching Bt138 a kilogram in modern supermarkets and breaking the Bt90 level in major fresh markets around Bangkok. "The price of pork has been rising over the past two weeks," Wattana Jiranurak, an attendant at the Bang Na branch of Tops Supermarket, said yesterday.
