2004 World Pork Expo set for second weekend in June

DES MOINES, IOWA - The 16th annual World Pork Expo will be held the June 10-12, 2004, at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. As the largest pork-industry trade show and exhibition in the world, the expo draws thousands of pork producers, 500 exhibitors and visitors from across the country and around the globe.

"There's something for everybody at World Pork Expo," says Keith Berry, president of the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) which presents the annual event. "Along with the world-class pork industry trade show and educational seminars for producers, we'll be hosting the National Swine Registry breed shows and sales, as well as the new World Pork Expo Junior Classic Barrow Show.

Also new year is the World Pork Expo Farm Toy Collector Show and Sale featuring a limited edition World Pork Expo commemorative toy tractor," Berry adds. Another addition to the line up is the first annual World Pork Open Sporting Clay Championship and, for the families, NPPC has added performances by Valentine's Performing Pigs on the Bill Riley stage. In the cattle barn, you'll find the PigCasso art show as well the ever-popular pig races and more.

Saturday, June 12, is a day you don't want to miss, starting with "Cruisin' with the Hogs," featuring 150 Harley-Davidson motorcycles parading down the main concourse followed by judging of the National Pork Board-sponsored BarbeQlossal™ cooking contest .

Again this year, World Pork Expo MusicFest hits the stage Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. featuring country artist, David Ball, whose patriotic hit, "Riding with Private Murphy" has twice topped the charts.
