Alternative Feeds Lower Swine Expenses
SOUTH DAKOTA - About 65 to 70 percent of the cost of raising pigs is related to feed cost, meaning the recent increases in costs for corn and soybean meal is raising pork producers' breakeven costs. Corn costs $3 per bushel, and soybean meal (SBM) costs $300 a ton.
