Pig challenge from new members
EU - Imminent EU enlargement is already putting pressure on pig prices. On May 1 the 15 existing Member States of the EU will be boosted by a further 10 new entrants mostly from the former Eastern Bloc. German and low countries' pig meat processors are anticipating a flood of cull sows from new entrant countries.
