Driving down the cost of pig production

UK - Pig farmers using environmentally-controlled finishing accommodation as opposed to natural ventilation, slats instead of straw and wet feed rather than dry feed, are substantially reducing their production costs says East Yorkshire pig building manufacturer AM Warkup.

An increasing number of producers are going down this path and are generally reported to be reducing their production costs by more than 310 for a pig of 75-80 kg deadweight.

This breaks down to 33.20/pig for environmental control, the same for slats and 34/pig for wet feeding (even more if co-products are used).
