Iowa declared free of hog disease pseudorabies

IOWA - Iowa’s pork industry has achieved what was once thought to be an impossible accomplishment. Last week, the Iowa Department of Agriculture announced the state has reached Stage V status and is now officially free of pseudorabies. The highly contagious disease has cost Iowa pork producers millions of dollars and has forced many producers to sell off their valuable breeding stock; rebuild their herds; and, in some cases, leave the business.
