Pork price at record high amid strong demand

KOREA - The retail price of pork has hit a record high as mad cow disease and bird flu caused consumers to eat less beef and chicken and more pork, while fewer pigs are being raised. At E-mart, a giant discount store, bacon is selling at prices ranging from 1,620 won ($1.40) to 1,780 won per 100 grams, up 10 percent from April, said a staff member.
