Portuguese grants illegal, says EU court

European Court finds aid to Portuguese pig farmers was against the common market rules. The Court of Justice of the European Union has annulled a decision of the E.U. council, authorizing Portugal to grant aid to Portuguese pig farmers. The producers received unlawful aid granted in 1994 and 1998. The grant aid was declared incompatible with the Common Market by the European Commission.
