Pigs allegedly neglected, deprived of water

US - Among the allegations of animal neglect and abuse raised against the University of Nevada, Reno, is the charge that a herd of pigs to be used for skin cancer research was routinely deprived of water and proper care from May to early November. Craig Beattie, a biotechnology professor at the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources, said the pigs always had enough water, food and care since arriving at UNR May 20 from Texas A&M University. He said the colleague who alleged neglect of the pigs to the USDA is guilty of tampering with the animals and possibly ruining their research value.
