Since 2002 pork pie sales have increased from 3158.1 million to 3165.6 million and the sausage roll market has increased by 17 per cent to 3117.8 million according to a report just produced by the British Pig Executive (BPEX).

The consistent growth in the market is encouraging in light of competition and shows pork products are still in great demand and show no sign of slowing down.

BPEX Marketing Manager Chris Lukehurst said: "This resurgence in popularity of a traditional favourite can only be good news for producers."

"We must now capitalise on that by making sure as much British meat as possible is used in the manufacturing sector."

He added: "The degree of research and understanding contained in the report will help to develop products in line with today's consumer demands resulting in a boost to the pork products market."
