Full house at NPA contract-finisher meeting
UK - A dozen Lincolnshire farmers attended an NPA meeting at Skirbeck Farm, Benniworth in Lincolnshire today, to hear about contract-finishing opportunities in the pig industry. Most expressed firm interest and it is anticipated some conversions will follow.
NPA is active on members' behalf in Brussels & Whitehall, and with processors, supermarkets & caterers - fighting for the growth and pros-perity of the UK pig industry. |
The meeting was chaired by Stewart Houston. Speakers included Giles Penn of DRS, Jim Burling of Bowes of Norfolk, Meryl Ward, Richard Longthorp, Howard Revell of BQP, contract-finishers David Murrell and James White, Mark Haighton of George Adams, and Ian Campbell and Digby Scott on behalf of NPA.
After the formal part of the meeting, would-be contract-finishers were invited to explore individual contract-finishing opportunities with the producers present, whilst sampling outstanding pork products supplied by Geo Adams and BQP and prepared and served by Ann Scott and Sally Selby.
The meeting was a pilot and may be repeated in other parts of the country if producers identify a need. Meryl's husband Steve has suggested a meeting with land agents could prove fruitful at the moment, as they are about to embark on a new round of grant-aided farm business assessments.
