NFU urges farmers to check entitlement statements carefully

UK - Farmers are being advised to scrutinise the details of their Single Payment Scheme entitlements when they receive details of their claim in the coming weeks.

The NFU issued the advice following the announcement by DEFRA that it had set the National Reserve scale-back figure at 4.2%.

The announcement marks the first stage in the definition and distribution of SPS payments and the NFU is urging the Rural Payments Agency to ensure farmers are swiftly notified of their entitlements and payments swiftly made.

The NFU is urging farmers to fully check the details of their entitlement when notification arrives in the post and also to raise any concerns or queries with the RPA in writing at the earliest date.

NFU President Tim Bennett said: “The announcement is an important step toward the final distribution of payments and hopefully marks the beginning of a swift resolution to the ongoing problems surrounding the SPS.

“The NFU will maintain pressure to ensure payments are received at the earliest possible date.

“It is now vitally important that farmers make sure their established entitlement is correct as it will have ramifications not only on their payment this year, but for years to come as well.
