POSITION AIM:

Pig Farm Managers required for 3 operations of 5000 sow farrow to wean breeding units plus off site finisher operations. These farms are part of an important food group operation. Contracts are offered for a period of 1-2 years during which time the candidates will be responsible for managing the start up of the farm as well as training and developing a high performing team and coaching potential Farm Managers.

KEY FACTS AND FIGURES:

Miratorg is a food distributor based in Moscow that was formed in 1995. Today they are one of the most important wholesale and retail suppliers of meat and poultry in Russia. Miratorg are now expanding their operation to primary production with investment of over $100m.

These positions will be held on a contract basis and will run for a minimum of 24 months. Positions will be available from March 2006 onwards. Supervision and support will be provided by Pig Improvement Company Ltd (PIC).

RESPONSIBILITIES/KEY TASKS:

• Lead and delegate responsibilities to a team of people.
• Implement staffing levels and remuneration policy.
• Managing the smooth operation of breeding, gestation and finishing units which includes feed and health management and co-ordination of animal flows.
• Responsible for training and development of team and specifically the trainee farm manager.
• Implement Bio-security controls and procedures for people.
• Record keeping with GeneCare, PigCare and Oracle.
• Implement technical protocols.
• Maintain inventory and shipment planning.
• Regular and routine communication with PIC Team.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

• BSc in Animal Science, Agricultural Business or related degree desirable.
• Minimum of 2 – 3 years experience in pig production.
• Proven evidence of managerial or leadership skills is essential.
• Excellent husbandry skills and Knowledge of Health Programme.
• Good communication (verbal/written), interpersonal and computer skills are required.
• A team oriented person is paramount to the success of these roles.
• Experience with Start-Up facilities desirable.

DESIRABLE:

• Proven training skills
• Previous experience in Russia/Central and Eastern Europe

The candidate should be fit, energetic, and resilient, and be happy to be located in Russia. It is not essential for candidates to speak Russian but would need to be confident to work with interpreters.
