Wild boar herd on the run again

UK - More than 30 wild boar are still on the loose in Devon after being released from a farm for the second time.

About 45 animals were freed from Alan Dedames' Woodland Wild Boar Farm near South Molton on Monday. Ten have been recaptured, 35 remain at large.

Animal activists said they "liberated" the animals. About 100 boar were let loose from the farm in December.

Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed they are investigating criminal damage at the farm. The unnamed activists sent a statement to the Animal Liberation Front confirming that they carried out the attack.

In it, the activists said their action was "dedicated to the boar that Mr Dedames had sent to be slaughtered over the years".

The statement said the activists had "liberated" the boar recaptured after the previous raid on the farm.

The activists said their action had given the boar "a new life of freedom".

Farmer Mr Dedames told BBC News: "They obviously cased the joint and they knew exactly what they were doing."
