The 500-sow high-health indoor unit, which will be producing AC1 parent gilts from Meidam grandparent and great-grandparent stock and Volante boars, is due to come on stream this autumn. Trading under the name RPD Scotland Ltd, it is anticipated that it will produce 3,000 gilts a year for both the UK and rapidly-growing overseas markets.

"Demand for our prolific breeding stock is outstripping supply and we needed an isolated location to produce our high-health gilts," commented ACMC managing director Matthew Curtis.

"Scotland has an excellent reputation for producing healthy pigs which is why we are expanding our output of high-health stock in this area."
