Hog congress to draw in 2,000 participants

PHILIPPINES - The national hog convention and trade exhibits to be held here next month has already attracted around two thousand registrants nationwide, organizers said, as local counterparts wind up venue preparations.

Albert Lim, National Federation of Hog Farmer Inc. president, said they expect around three thousand exhibitors at the end of the month, saying they expect thousands of spectators packing the Limketkai atrium where the three-day trade exhibit will be held.

"With the help of the regional hog association, we aim to make this hog industry convention here the biggest so that the local hog growers and other related industry can be given maximum exposure," Lim said.

Lim flew from Manila Saturday to attend the contract signing between venue owner LKKS chief Albino Limketkai and Northern Mindanao Hog Raisers Association (NorminHog) officials at the Limketkai's corporate office.

Fortunato Veñegas, NorminHog president, assured the event's success, thanking the national federation for deciding to hold the annual convention and trade show in Cagayan de Oro.

Veñegas said the event would boost hog production business in this part of the country, which he said, remains safe from the foot and mouth disease experienced in some areas in Luzon.
