State Of The Art Hog Facility

NEBRASKA - With rows of pens, each outfitted with a heat lamp and machines to control feed and water, Waldo Farms' new finishing building will eventually be home to as many as 749 hogs.

But on Wednesday the facility was opened up to neighbors, county officials and a group of Chinese dignitaries during an open house that gave people a rare look inside a Waldo Farms finishing facility.

“We're showing the place off today,“ said Max Waldo, Waldo Farms owner.

He said they had planned to hold an open house to let neighbors and county officials see the facility, and decided to schedule it in conjunction with a visit by the Chinese dignitaries who are interested in buying some of Waldo Farms' hogs.

“It is a good opportunity to show the community what our facilities are like,“ said Troy McCain, Waldo Farms material farm manager at DeWitt.

Waldo Farms is a leading seedstock swine genetic supplier throughout the U.S. and around the world. They are the top purebred recorder in the U.S.

Normally, the public is not allowed to enter the environmentally controlled finishing facilities, to cut down on outside contaminants, he said, but having the nearly completed facility provided Waldo Farms an opportunity to host the open house.
