Some counties more pig-friendly than others

NORTH DAKOTA - Towner and Ramsey counties in northeastern North Dakota may be neighbors, but opinions on pig farming couldn't be further apart.

Towner County may be one of the most hog-friendly of North Dakota's 53 counties, while neighboring Ramsey could be the least.

Cando Mayor James Gibbens Jr., who is also a hog farm owner, says he prefers to look at pig farms as progress, not problems. And he guesses that 80 percent of the people in Cando and Towner County think so, too.

Ramsey County Commissioner Joe Belford says it's likely the opposite in his county. "If you were to do a vote in Ramsey County, you'd find it 80-20 opposed," he said.
