The meat sector needs promotion. EU offers subsidies but providing there are national funds spent, too. That’s why the Polish meat producers want – similarly to the dairy producers – build a special fund. Andrzej Lepper, the deputy PM and the Minister of Agriculture has already preliminarily accepted the bill. This month it will be consulted by all producers and in September go to the Parliament as a government bill.

“We propose that all slaughterhouses pay PLN 0.3 (EUR 0.07) for every pig and PLN 1.2 for every cow. The fee would be obligatory”, Widold Choinski, the CEO of the Polish Association of Meat Producers, Exporters and Importers, said.

In his opinion, the fund would raise PLN 6-7 billion annually.
