WASHINGTON, D.C. - The National Pork Producers Council has named Michael C. Formica as environmental counsel in its Washington, D.C., office.

“Michael brings a wealth of knowledge and experience on environment issues to this position that will be beneficial to the pork industry,“ said Kirk Ferrell, NPPC’s vice president of public policy. “He’s an experienced lobbyist and lawyer who will be an important addition to our office and a valuable asset to pork producers.“

Most recently, Formica was director of Environment Affairs at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. From September 1998 to May 2003, he was an associate attorney with Baise & Miller, P.C., in Washington, D.C., representing agricultural clients on air, waste and water issues as well as on eminent domain and 5th Amendment takings proceedings.

Formica received a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Rhode Island and his law degree from Vermont Law School. He has been admitted to the bar for the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims, the U.S. District Court for the D.C. Circuit and the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. Formica is scheduled to begin his duties at NPPC Aug. 23.
