THE VOICE OF THE UK PIG INDUSTRY

NPA is active on members' behalf in Brussels & Whitehall, and with processors, supermarkets & caterers - fighting for the growth and pros-perity of the UK pig industry.

But following a phone conversation between NPA chairman Stewart Houston and a director of the ferry company, the situation is now improved.

Although Hull will remain closed for shipments of pig breeding stock for the time being, it is hoped Dover can be opened. This is currently being negotiated.

It is impossible to unravel a main board decision instantly but the company appears prepared to listen to the industry's case and there is some optimism that the ban will be lifted. P&O has an existing policy in place of not shipping animals for slaughter.
